Growing up in the Florida Panhandle, Jimmy Buffett was my first favorite storyteller. Listening to songs like Love in the Library, (skip to 4:55 for the song, but the video directed by his daughter is lovely, too), Frenchman for the Night , False Echoes, and Come Monday (the song gets me every time, but watch the video for a hilariously awkward fruit-eating montage) in my dad’s truck on the way to and from the beach every weekend is where my love of story was born.
I spent my childhood exploring the natural springs and gulf-coastal waters in and around the Florida Panhandle while stories spun in my head. Now I live near a lake in North Carolina, where I still spend as much time as possible in or on water as my brain untangles thoughts, processes being human in an increasingly inhumane world, and creates stories that I hope are relatable and make my readers feel as seen and understood as I’ve felt by reading so many other authors.
Though my work is fiction, my stories are all inspired by real-life events. For example, my debut novel, Maybe, Maybe Not, came to me in 2023 when one of my children was diagnosed with severe contamination Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I searched for examples of heroes, celebrities and fictional characters to share with my daughter of people thriving while living with the disorder, and this ultimately compelled me to write a story where OCD wasn’t the antagonist or the punchline, but rather a facet of a woman in OCD recovery who discovers the power within herself to do remarkable things.
My next novel, The Man Between Us, will be out spring/summer 2027.
When I’m not writing or in water, I’m usually chauffeuring my four kids around, working in the garden while listening to an audiobook with our dog, Lily, at my side, or trying to talk my husband into building a catio for our other two giant fur balls, Frank and Ollie.
I’m so glad you stopped by! I’d love for you to introduce yourself or connect with me on Instagram.
